Right-Handed Pitcher

Growing up in Nederland, Texas, Alex was always known as the "kid with the arm".  From the time he first started T-ball and Pop Warner football,  his arm was always the focus of his athletic prowess.   A  two-time all-district quarterback and catcher at Nederland High School, Alex's goal was to play college baseball.  While recruited at SFA as a catcher, he spent his true freshman year as both catcher and pitcher.  Returning to SFA as a sophomore, his coaches determined that his pitching abilities were the key to helping the team and to Alex's future.  With a 56 game schedule, Alex appeared in 32 games, second most in the Southland Conference and those 32 appearances tied him for the most ever in a season by an SFA pitcher.  While most appearances were as the "set-up man", his record was 4-3 and he averaged over a strikeout per inning.  Around Christmas time 2009, Alex felt something was just not right with his arm and team trainers put him on a regimen of rest and rehab for 3 months.  He threw in 5 games early in the 2010 season but still knew there was something wrong with his arm...

WR #5

I have a huge passion for sports. I am athlete to the core.   Football is my best sport.  During my years at Westfield High School (Spring, Tx), I was fortunate to work with some good coaches and receivers.  In my junior year, I caught 37 passes for 769 yards and 12 touchdowns.  During spring football in May, I tore my ACL.  It was a devastating injury because I knew it would affect my senior year and recruiting.  However, I worked with my mother to find a doctor that was very skilled in this type of injury and we were fortunate enough to get in to see Dr. Walter Lowe.  After I learned of his expertise in repairing ACL’s and knew more about his reputation, I knew this was the place I needed to be to be able to successfully recover from the injury.  Dr. Lowe was very patient and explained everything about the surgery, recovery and rehabilitation to me very well.  Besides that, he has a wonderful staff that were supportive, knowledgeable and accessible through every step of the process.  They cared about me not just as an athlete, but as a person.  I did as Dr. Lowe recommended and adhered to my therapy and rehabilitation schedule.  I worked hard returned to the gridiron just five months after surgery.  Normally, the rehabilitation process can be an average of nine months but I worked intensely to be back out on the field doing what I love.  I will play with the Northwestern Wildcats in the Big Ten next year and I am looking forward to getting down the field quickly and fiercely for Northwestern and making a huge impact,  just as I did with the surgery and rehabilitation.  Dr. Lowe and his staff are experts and tops in their field.  In this brief time, he has inspired me to pursue a career as an orthopedic surgeon, just as he.  It was a huge honor to be his patient.

Dr. Lowe previously performed surgery on my shoulder.  After the procedure and physical therapy, Dr. Lowe’s expectations were that I could “forget it ever happened.”  He was correct; I cannot even remember which shoulder was injured.

More recently, Dr. Lowe performed an ACL reconstruction on my knee (12/16/2010).  Our challenge was that shortly after surgery, I departed for an extended third world country visit.  Dr. Lowe’s staff completely mitigated this situation with long distance monitoring and physical therapy advice.  Specifically, David Viaclovsky answers email 24/7 and provides real time adjustments to my physical therapy.  Between, Dr. Lowe’s surgical skill and David’s knowledge and responsiveness, this is a winning combination.  Like the shoulder, I fully expect to “forget the torn ACL ever happened.”

Thanks,
Tim Hennessey

"I love to play volleyball but in my senior year of high school, I tore my ACL during an intense volley match. Dr. Lowe was quick to respond and was able to help me by repairing my ACL and getting me back into the game."
